Airplane Conversations

We've all been there... traveling alone on an airplane and being trapped in a confined area with (many) strange people you don't know and to top it off, flight attendants who are on a power trip (seriously what's up with that? I thought they were here to SERVE us...)

Anyway... I am USUALLY a nice person. Really. Nice. However, when I'm on a plane, I usually am NOT in the mood to converse with random people who I will NEVER EVER see again and I know we are not going to exchange names, numbers, emails, twitter accounts or facebook info just because lets face it... it's just weird.

So that being said, I try and "keep to myself" and I would think that my facials and eyes closed or head in a book would relay that message. I guess I'll have to wear earphones and a face mask next time.

I just want to wear a shirt that says, "I'm traveling for a reason... and I want to rest up on the plane because I'm tired and I just want to get to my final destination without having to pretend like I am at all interested in what anyone else has to say."

Is that mean? No... I'm just being honest.

So I continue to ask myself, as this happens time and time again, "do these people REALLY think that I want to chat? Is my face at all saying... 'Hello, I would love to have a conversation with you?'"

Flashback to yesterday... a nice man starts asking me questions about the in flight Wi Fi that is now offered. I could see if I had a laptop out but I was literally sitting there reading a magazine and since this man had a quiet voice AND everyone in my direct vicinity had their air on full blast, I could barely make out what he was saying. All I heard was "Wi Fi" and then he started going on and on about things I had no idea so I was just nodding like I had some inclination as to what he was getting at. I had none. Then I felt guilty like I should have been more alert to what he was saying but then I thought... no. Not worth it.

So I continued to pretend like I could read lips, but I think he finally figured out that I had no clue. So if your out there man, I'm sorry and I think you have to pay for the "in flight" Wi Fi.
